Congratulations, Oak Meadow Woman’s Club, on 40 years of service to our wonderful neighborhood!! In 1980 a group of women gathered to form a club of ladies that would promote beautification, health, and good citizenship to Oak Meadow. They also wanted to present informative programs to foster the interest and fellowship of the members and also to participate in as many charitable projects as practicable. Headed by President Kathy Benedetto, the group set up by-laws that have carried forth to this day with updates as the years progressed. We are very grateful to this group of 31 women who began our organization. It has inspired so many women to work towards a common goal of promoting many projects and fundraisers for the good of our neighborhood, while also having fun and developing long-lasting friendships. This is what makes a neighborhood great!!
Twenty-seven hard-working and dedicated ladies have served as president of OMWC throughout the years. Due to limited space, I will only list those that are still living in the neighborhood.
HATS OFF TO ALL THESE WONDERFUL LADIES!!
and to all our past presidents who have done so much for our club and community.
Obviously, in order to make worthwhile donations for the projects needed, we must have successful fundraising in place. In the past, the Woman’s Club sponsored the annual spring garage sale, and the very popular Christmas luminaries, and now the Christmas mailbox bows. These money raisers along with the members’ dues and donations in lieu of bows have been instrumental in our contribution programs.
Of course, all work and no play isn’t any fun. Since 1980 the club has strived to provide many activities that would appeal to all members. Monthly programs were scheduled at member’s homes such as cooking demonstrations, craft projects, home and safety programs, lawn and garden presentations and husband and wife socials, and holiday open houses. Side Group are sponsored social groups and among the current ones are Bunco, Canasta, Hand, Knee and Foot, Book Club, Trivial Pursuit, wine tasting events, and Great Escapes.
Popular community events were the Halloween Parade in the late 1990s along with the 4th of July parade which has been a yearly hit for decades. The children just love to parade down to the pool dressed in patriotic garb and have frozen popsicles at their destination. What fun!!
OMWC is now more than 100 members strong. It has been a goal of the club to increase our membership every year. We began with a little more than 30 members and have worked to continue to grow. So here we are celebrating our 40th Anniversary with much pride. Unfortunately we were not able to celebrate our milestone in the way that we planned, with a Margarita Party, due to Covid-19. We are extremely grateful to be a part of such a fine organization. Please join us this year so that we can continue the legacy!
